Event 8 – Rosewood (Woodford Visit)

A phone call on Sunday night about the possibility of rain was quickly dismissed by Woodford’s John Stephens who said “we don’t mind playing in a bit of rain”. We were anxious until our players turned up in case Woodford had a bigger roll up than we did. And during the day there was almost continuous misty rain which was a nuisance rather than a deterrant, but all finished the day.

The field contained 83 players (78 men and 5 ladies) of whom 19 were visitors from Woodford. The field was 103 until there were 20 withdrawals because of the uncertainty of the weather. The Woodford bus arrived at the expected time of 8.30 giving players time to have a warm drink and Pikelets, check handicaps and to identify their hit-off Tees. Two new members were welcomed to the group.

The Course only had 3mm of rain on the Sunday night, so it was very playable, though by day’s end the paths were wetter than the players. The Fairway grass growth hindered some of the traditional run on the Course and the Greens were in very good condition, so good scores could result if putts dropped in.

Rosewood again proved to be great hosts with the fine array of offerings to accompany the Tea or Coffee, and the two lunch offerings were very appropriate for the temperature of the day. Some even lashed out and added sweets.

Two scores in the 40’s today with Ossie Baker and Bill Naoum both having 41’s with 21 points on the back nine. On countback Ossie got the nod. Jeff Smith and Ailsa Brown were the other local winners with 37 and 34 points. Norm Silley’s 37 points got him the Woodford trophy. Geoff Jones from Woodford had the shot of the day to score an Eagle on the 13th. Barry Geldard added to his recent run of Pin Shot wins with his 346cm on Hole 11.

Photos.

1. Hole 2 looking a treat after this year’s rain and Lyle Robson made the most of it with a shot to within 20cm of the Pin.

2. The boys in Blue are back in town and John always looks after them.

3. Greg wasn’t daunted by this shot and he achieved a well-deserved result.

4. Are they looking to see where it went or awestruck by a great shot?

5. All smiles now after getting out of the rain, and Ben even picked up a Lucky Number win.

The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun start at Karana Downs on Monday 4th May. The Timesheet is now available.
