A fine day with no expectation of showers, but how the locals wish they could get a few downpours. Laidley has missed most of the rain and player comfort was reduced by the heat reflected from the dry ground and the dust brought up by the buggies. Also, it will be great when we can get back to some sub 30-degree temperatures.
The field was 84 (72 Men and 12 Ladies), a number which ended up extending the playing time to close to 5 hours because we played the long Course after an unexpected mix-up with score cards. One new player was welcomed as was one visiting player.
The Course was extremely dry, but the provision of Preferred Lie made it very playable, though players hitting high shots had to carefully consider the steady breeze, especially after about 11 o’clock. The Greens were in top condition and were a pleasure to play when their speed was correctly judged.
Tea and Coffee were ready on our arrival and the new chef had two choices for lunch which were well supported.
Garry Rodgers had 40 points, the best score of the day, and it would have been 41 if he had used his correct handicap. Another dozen or so players also played off lower handicaps than they should have, and it is a problem we will have to try to sort out before someone plays off a higher handicap, wins, and has to be disqualified. Shiela Goodbun easily won the Ladies trophy and Wally Bodetti won his first comp with us, on countback. The shot of the day was John Hunters first Hole-In-One on the 8th hole. Congratulations John.

1. New Manager, Milton Smyly, is quickly finding out all about office work and computers.
2. After watching this shot, the President is thinking of changing to pocketed shorts in an effort to keep his feet on the ground.
3. June took a lot of care with the line of the putt and wasn’t too far off with length either.
4. After a Hole-In-One you can always find the energy to retrieve your ball, so they tell me.
5. Cheers to you too Eric, and we expect you to do well at your home Course next week.
The next game is at Gailes on Monday 11th April. It is an 8.30am Shotgun start. The following game is Gatton on Monday 9th May.
