Event 8 – Gailes

Interest in a game at the Course not played since 2011 was high, especially since it was being sponsored by local members, Gaye and Barry Geldard. All but the early arrivals drove through a sprinkling of rain to get to the Course and by 7.40am the umbrellas were out, and players were deciding whether or not to venture forth. The Pro Shop computer was consulted continuously until about 8.45am, by which time everyone had decided whether to stay or leave.

Finally, 26 of the 88 on the Timesheet had decided to play a Sweepstakes Stableford. The last group hit off at 9.00am and played one hole with light rain but completed the remaining 17 holes without a drop of rain, in what turned out to be very pleasant golf weather. At one point, the sun even came out for a short while.

The Course itself was in excellent condition and the Greens were true even though they had recently been sanded, and with the earlier rain, were of varying speeds.

Gaye and Barry ensured the Urn was turned on this year and the Tea/Coffee and biscuits were greatly appreciated.

Captain Les led by example and returned the best score of the day, 37 points. The rain soaked the Pin Shot result cards and made recording results a nightmare and so all Pins and Approaches were withdrawn. A suitable game for holding the Sponsored day will be advised at a later date.

Photos.

1. Will we or won’t we play. Don wants to, Ron’s not so sure. Both did.

2. The rain’s gone and Bob has discarded his wet weather gear. It’s good to be hitting off grass, even in the rough.

3. The locals are a bit apprehensive about Richard’s next shot, but he landed the ball right up next to the Pin.

4. Let’s shake and be friends and I’ll be on my way.

The next game will be at Hattonvale on Monday 5th May. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun Start.
