Event 7 – Rosewood

A fine but cloudy day was predicted with a top temperature of about 28 degrees and that is what ensued. In fact, there weren’t too many clouds, but the steady breeze kept players very comfortable, even though it was expected that a wet Course and overnight rain would result in a reasonably high humidity.

The field contained 99 players (87 men and 12 ladies) of whom 23 were visitors from Woodford. The Woodford bus arrived before 8.30 and this allowed them plenty of time to work out their playing handicaps and to locate the Tees allocated to them. Two new members were welcomed to the group.

The decision to allow Preferred Lie through the Green was a wise one as the recent rain had not allowed the rough to be manicured, and adjusting some ball positions because of the lie, made the game more enjoyable. The usual run on the Course was restricted because of the wet Fairways and the areas surrounding the Greens trapped all shots which landed short. The Greens were the best experienced at Rosewood in recent visits and the Ground Staff are to be congratulated on their efforts. The warnings about the size of the Scotch Grey mosquitos was right, but the supply of repellant by the Club was very thoughtful and prevented any legal action.

The visitors made quick work of dispatching the pikelets left by the locals and then helped to finish off the remaining biscuits. The three meal choices were all well received and to everyone’s delight, included sweets as well.

No one scored 40 points today and the difficulty in scoring was reflected in the Ball Rundowns going to 31 and 22. Denise Johnson enjoys the competition against Woodford and her 30 points were enough to give her two wins in a row against them. The Pin Shots were spread around the players, but Janice Skinner continued her good run for the Ladies. The winner of the Inter-District trophy will be decided after our trip to Woodford in June.

1. What a little rain can do to the condition of a Course!

2. These two hit it off right from the start.

3. Welcome back Terry. Rick took note of the advice and won the day.

4. No need to worry John, we’ll take care that they all apply their Insect Repellant.

5. These pies are nearly as good as the ones we get at home.

The next game is an ‘Away’ game at Gailes on Monday 28th April. It will be a Two Tee Start from 8.00am and will be sponsored by Gaye and Barry Geldard. The Nomination Sheet is now available.
