Event 7 – Esk

Cloud cover and a breeze for most of the day provided ideal conditions for the game. It was a shame that a few missed playing when they were unable to get a Buggy. With the Captain unavailable because of illness, we were very appreciative of Les Smith’s help on the day doing what he has done so well for 10 years, as well as also looking after the money in the absence of the Treasurer.

The field was smaller than expected when 48 (40 men and 8 ladies) hit off about 10 minutes early. There were a few dramas on the day. Two players returned home because of illness, one thought he would except he was able to borrow a pair of socks, and 16 holes was all that one Buggy could manage before the fuel tank read empty. One guest from the Gold Coast was welcomed for a game with us.

Work by volunteer members continues to make improvements to the Course. After recent rain the grass cover was significant but preferred lie was helpful because of the location of balls after some shots. The Greens were mostly in excellent condition but Pin placements saw many three putt Greens during the day. Many forgot to allow for the surface slope at their edges when playing to them only to have to make a second attempt to get the ball to stay on.

The new external arrangement for the setup of the Urn and the much-appreciated eats before play was welcomed as it reduced congestion in the clubhouse. The Ladies had the two Course lunch ready after play and it was right up to our expectations of an Esk lunch.

The Course was the winner today with only one score in the 40’s. That was Wayne Gordon’s fine 43. John Hunter only needed 37 to take Division 2 on Countback and Lyn Baker also had to survive a Countback to take the Ladies trophy. Our guest Graham Connell had a Birdie to win the Approach on the 8th.

1. Sorry to break up the party, but it’s time to move to the Tee.

2. The result – one handspan from the hole.

3. Nev was a bit camera shy, so now you know the result too.

4. I think he’s standing on your ball Ted and is challenging you to come and get it.

The next game is at Rosewood on Monday 20th April when we host our visitors from Woodford. It will be a 9.00am Shotgun start to allow Woodford players to arrive and to have some nourishment. The following game for our members is the Invitation game for 40 players at Boonah on Monday 27th April. Both Timesheets are now out.
