A fine and pleasant day only spoiled by the higher than usual humidity late in the Round. The efforts of volunteer members of Esk to have the Course in such good condition for our game was very much appreciated.
A disappointing field of 49 (43 men and 6 ladies) turned up well on time to permit play to get under way 10 minutes early. It is hoped that those with ailments and firm appointment dates will be back at the next game. With the smaller field, play moved easily and most finished in just over 4 hours.
The recent rain has produced quite a good grass cover, but the usual card length preferred lie was still necessary to look after the Fairways, and to give players every opportunity to make clean contact with the ball. The Greens also have responded to the additional water resulting in good grass coverage but making them slower to putt on than we usually experience here.
The fresh scones, jam and cream were eagerly and quickly dispatched by satisfied consumers. (See the first photo). Thanks ladies. Lunch was a very appropriate salad, and in the Esk tradition, accompanied by sweets.
Peter Smollen’s 41, the only 40-point score of the day, won him Division 1 by a 5-point margin, while Charles Stevenson’s 37 points was just good enough to win Division 2. Lyn Baker was surprised to find that her 30 points was enough to give her three wins in a row. Graham Wellings won the Pin Shot on the 4th hole and then had a par, but two others in the group had birdies on the hole.
Photos.
1. John showing his appreciation of fine cooking and local jam making.
2. Miguel was a little concerned about having Cedric in this exuberant mood.
3. We all thought he usually wore a hat to help him keep his head down.
4. How many others finished short on the fourth hole today?
5. They’re still making mileage out of those two birdies on hole 4.
The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun start at Gailes on Monday 3rd April. The Timesheet is now available.
