Travelling to Lowood was so pleasant this morning with the countryside sparkling after the recent rain. The forecast said, ‘a few showers’, but this proved incorrect, and a perfectly fine day followed, even though the high humidity made it quite warm over the last 6 holes.
The final field was 74 (62 men and 12 ladies), a reasonable field and one which kept the field moving except for the expected one group backlog at two or three holes. A couple of late withdrawals and two non-arrivals caused some hasty last-minute changes to avoid a two-person group on the Course.
The Course must have been very brown last week because after a couple of day’s rain the full grass coverage of the Fairways is a good week or two away. The Greens were excellently prepared and putting would have been easier with the correct reading of the line from some of the Pin placements. Most Members were playing the new Course layout for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed the new challenge of new Tee placements.
There was a great sense of relaxation in the Clubhouse before the game with groups chatting away and enjoying their buttered buns, and the roast meals after the game were again of the usual high standard.
Once again, only one player scored 40 or more points, so Joe Ormachea’s 41 points won him Division 1. Neither of the Ladies Pin Shots were won so Les was more generous in their Ball Rundown. Graham Wilson’s Pin Shot on the 2nd hole finished 14cm from the Pin and was probably the shot of the day.
Sorry no Photos for this game. The photographer accidently deleted them from the camera before downloading them. Sitting fees for those affected will be re-imbursed at a later date if their photos cannot be re-taken at the next Lowood game.
