Players eagerly consult Weather reports at this time of the year for any prediction of rain, as well as the primary reason, the hope that the temperature will be in the 20’s and there will be some cloud cover. Neither resulted so a dry and quite warm day was the result.
The field was 71 (55 Men and 16 Ladies), a pleasing result after the lower numbers last year, and probably, partly as a response to the reports of the great condition of the Course. For the first time in quite a while everyone on the Timesheet turned up and in good time too. Two new members were welcomed.
What a great boost to players’ expectations to see the green Fairways and the high water levels in the dams as they played the Course. And the Greens, which had been pretty good last year, were even better to putt on this year. Congratulations to the Laidley staff on the rewarding results of their efforts.
The pre-game refreshment area was well set up for some nourishment before hit-off and the hamburger and salad lunch received great reviews from those who partook of it.
Shirley Luhrman’s 37 points gave her an easy win today but in the men’s events countbacks were necessary. Ken Parker won a two-way duel on 35 points in Division 2, and in Division 1 Arthur Green had to survive a three-way countback, which included Garry Rodgers, the local lad, and John Anderson, the new member, on 38 points.
Photos. None today.
The next game is at Ipswich City on Monday 27th May. It is an 8.30am Shotgun start. Both the Ipswich Timesheet and the Nomination sheet for Woodford will be at Rosewood from Tuesday 21st March.
