Event 6 – Ipswich City

It seemed probable that the game would get underway in the dry, but alas a shower arrived as the field was being dispatched. Thankfully it only lasted for about one hole. It stayed dry then until the first players arrived back in while a few groups had up to two holes to play. So, all in all, we were lucky to get as much golf as we did.

The field was 100 (80 men and 20 ladies) with four renewals and four new members. After a marathon effort on Sunday afternoon and evening, Captain Bob had the scorecards printed prior to play, with some slight last-minute checking where home clubs had entered Saturday scores late on Sunday

New work has occurred in various areas of the Course since November and the improvements are starting to be felt. The Greens were the best they have been for some time even allowing for the recent coring and sanding. The condition of the Course after recent rain and that received today, and care was needed in some areas with buggies.

The new carpet has smartened up the Clubhouse and with the whole area opened up, players easily spread out as the enjoyed their tea and coffee. The lunch menu offered 4 choices and feedback is being sought on the range of choices which seemed to cover all tastes.

Even though the Course was wet, there were ten scores in the forties. Rod Turnbull and Lyn Baker made it two wins in a row each with 43 and 41 points while Ivan Keen improved 4 shots on his score last game to win Division 2 with 41 points also. Miguel Cufi must have thought he had a great chance of a win with 43 points only to lose on a countback.
