It was hoped that with the coming of Autumn the days may eventually become cooler, but it didn’t happen today with the temperature reaching 32 degrees and the humidity making it feel much hotter. On the bright side, there was no suggestion of rain and the number of players turning up today was almost double the number at the last game.
The field was 124(103 men and 21 ladies), 24 more than the first game at this Course last year, greatly assisted by the registration of another nine renewing members and one new member. Even with such a large number, things went smoothly with only a few adjustments of groups following about eight withdrawals and players left the Clubhouse about 10 minutes early. Captain Bob again spent quite some time at the Club on Sunday to have all cards printed with the correct handicaps. Another top effort Bob.
The Course has really greened up after very good rainfall but unfortunately with the loss of one important mower, many areas had longer grass than usual and a lot of time was used looking for’ lost’ balls. On the other hand, the Greens following aeration and a sanding the previous week, were in excellent condition and rewarded those players getting the ball to the hole.
The boiling urn and the biscuits served the large numbers very well and, after a clarification about the lunch menu, a good variety was provided.
The outstanding score of the day was Don McKee’s 45 points to win Division 2. Helen Gilbert wanted a win today to break her run of Runner-up trophies but she had to settle for a third when Di Stanley chalked up her second win of the year. Lindsay Allen was the only other player with 40 points which won him his first trophy with us. Ron Pflugrath thought he had the Pin Shot on the 10th with 62cm, only to see Glenn Kermond post 61cm.
Photos.
1. There was plenty of feed for the flock of Corellas but this one was only interested in displaying its acrobatic skills for one group.
2. It wasn’t only on the Putting Green that Peter had some testing shots today.
3. Rainbow could have held on to John while he tried to extricate his wayward Tee shot.
4. This group were early to quench their thirst, and there were plenty more waiting to do the same.
5. It was a good day out there, but it looks like they are enjoying this part of the day just as much.
The next game is at Esk on Monday 26th March and the following game is at Warwick on Monday 9th April. Both will be 8.30am Shotgun starts. The Timesheets for both games are now available at Rosewood Golf Club.
