No clouds in the sky in the early morning and very few at the end of it. The temperature was in the low 30’s, and wise players made regular visits to their water bottles.
The numbers today were the lowest recorded in an Ipswich game that anyone can remember. There were only 59(44 men and 15 ladies. We have had one confirmed case with Vovid symptoms, and goodness knows how many close contacts may be affected. Reports on the condition of the rough undoubtedly affected the numbers also. There was one returning member.
After that rain, the ground staff did a great job presenting the Fairways and Greens in top order after the water coverage they suffered, especially the 14th Green which was covered with mud after the event. The task was too great to also get to the rough in the time available and it proved a graveyard for many balls. They are hoping to get the pumps going again in the near future or fear they may lose the Greens with the predicted hot weather now a reality.
The position of the Urn made easy access to all who used it and the menus for lunch suited all tastes.
Les Smith had a great day with 39 points with Jim Daniels the other men’s winner with 37. Angie Arumugam thought she had no chance with her 31 points but it proved one better than Shirley Morgan’s 30. The shot of the day surely was Carol McKenzie’s Pin Shot on the 10th which finished only one metre from the Pin in the far-right hand corner.
Photos:
1.There’s no certainty that Brian agrees with Paul on that point.
2. While inside, these three make sure they have the correct Handicap. Just as well because Jim was a winner.
3. Monty takes a close watch on the flight of this shot.
4. Joy watched this one right to the end on the 10th and it finished on the Green only 3 metres from the Pin.
5. Thanks, Roger, for this one. The Corella must have had poor eyesight to believe Neale’s ball was a possible meal or a nest reject.
The next game is at Toowoomba City on Monday 28th March.
