Event 5 – Lowood

A cloudy day with the temperature just creeping over 30, but with a breeze most of it, keeping conditions quite pleasant. It was expected that it would be a long day, but the Club is thankful that players continue to turn up and support their efforts to prepare the Course as best they can.

No rain to restrict playing numbers this year, and 95 (82 men and 13 ladies) hit off at about 8.20am hoping for a pleasant day. The game ended up progressing at a leisurely pace with holdups at holes 1 and 2 as usual. Three new members played their first games and there was one membership renewal. Both John and Bob have had good reports following their surgeries and Rod brushed up his skills in readiness for Warwick in a fortnight.

Dear oh dear, the Course is really in need of rain and is probably as bad as we have seen it, but it’s as good as can be expected at any of our Courses with limited water. The Greens and Tees got what was available and were a credit to the care of the staff.

Pikelets replaced the traditional Bun loaf provided by the club and they were a real treat, and we hope that the change can be repeated at the next game.

Janet Hines relished the conditions and put together 40 points for a comfortable win. Ernie Lee and Ken Marschke always had great contests here, but with Ken gone Ernie’s 43 points was never going to lose. Ken Hill thought he had 44 points but it was only 42, but still enough to pip Gary Collins. Bruce Thorogood’s Pin Shot win on the 4th hole was a great effort into the wind.

Photos.

1. It can’t be Bob. The moustache isn’t long enough. Thanks for the assistance, Rod.

2. He heard that Ernie Wright was hitting the ball well at the moment, so he just had to see for himself on the ninth Tee.

3. Now we know why some players are leaving the flag in on their putts. It’s so the hole shows up in photos.

4. Ken on his way to his first win with us.

5. Graham doesn’t have to watch. He knows where it is going to end up anyway.

The next game is at Warwick on Monday 18th March. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is available at Rosewood Golf Club.
