Event 5 – Laidley

Another very hot clear day made conditions quite unpleasant helped by the high humidity and the lack of cloud cover. All arrived early and play began ahead of time yet again.

The field was 75 (61 Men and 14 Ladies), 9 down on the corresponding game last year. Of these, 5 were playing their first games this year. Those not sure of their handicaps made good use of the club computer to get them right.

The Course was significantly greener than for the last Laidley game in 2019, but unfortunately it was due to the growth of foliage that will not be permanent and indicates a difficult time ahead for the Club to reach sound grass cover, especially if the rain continues to skirt the Course. The use of Tee up was necessay to ensure every opportunity to get good shots away. The Greens on the other hand have very few blemishes and will be in good shape when the hot weather departs.

A welcoming cup of tea or coffee was enhanced by some much-appreciated home cooking and the two lunch choices were well received.

Under the circumstances, the lower scoring was expected, but the winners returned commendable results. Jim and Catherine Guest won their Divisions and, Garry Rodgers, the other winner, topped off his day with an Eagle on hole 7. Congratulations Garry.
Photos.

1. It wasn’t the day to stray from the Fairway.

2. Les took no chances on this shot from a shady spot.

3. A consistent set-up saw most of Graeme’s drives finish on the Fairway.

4. They took home the majority of the trophies today.

5. Garry has every right to be happy with his day, and Jerry shares it with him.

The next game is at Toowoomba City on Monday 9th March. It is an 8.30am Shotgun start. Buggies are to be paid for at the Pro Shop and collected near the Practice Green. Registration will take place in the Clubhouse via the Half-way entrance near the 10th Tee.
