Event 5 – Ipswich City

Another day in the low 30’s but the high humidity made it quite a hot day for golf. All were thankful to Captain Peter who eased the load on members seeking handicaps by having all the scorecards printed with the handicaps included. One small item had quite a few confused. All starts at Ipswich City are now from the 1st Tee and this is printed on the card, so there would have been quite a wait until someone realised the situation and advised members to return to their Timesheet Tees.
A field was 88 (74 men and 14 ladies) with five renewals and one new member, quite satisfying after 93 had been on the Timesheet a few days prior to the game. No trouble with Buggies today. All who wanted one got one.

Those players who are not members at Ipswich City were very keen to see how the Course had come up under the new management. There were few troubles on the mown sections of the Fairways since the Preferred Lie option is sure to remain until there is a satisfactory grass cover on the poorer ones. The rough was a different story and time was lost where balls had run just off Fairways. Iin the deeper rough there was no need to bother looking for balls. The Greens were a delight to putt on and that in itself will see most return to play another game here.

Tea and Bikkies to start the day were well received and the two $5.00 lunches were again popular. The suggestion to have a roast meal at the winter game will be considered.

Denise Johnson made it two wins in a row with her 35 points while the men, playing off the white Tees, had seven players in the 40’s, but Bill Naoum with 41 on countback and Peter Frazer with 42 points won the trophies. Nev Halls had a heartstopper on the 14th hole when his Pin Shot looked like it was in the hole only to creep past by 32cm.

Photos.

1. The Course is really starting to look great.

2. Caught you Tony. The truck should have been far away from the 3rd Green to be safe. Luckily, I was on the 4th Tee to get this photo of a very wayward shot.

3. Was it going to be all downhill from here for the Esk boys so used to playing on the level?

4. Give it another couple of holes Paul and see how many of those you have left.

5. Not a happy shot to round off the report, but it’s hard to disguise dejection.

The next game is at Lowood on Monday 23rd March. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is available at Rosewood Golf Club.
