Event 5 – City (Toowoomba)

The weather in February was certainly an improvement on the cold shiver in June last year and a relief from temperatures in the 30’s at the last three games. No hold-ups on the highway meant that all players arrived in good time and the availability of Handicap Look-up sheets in the Clubhouse made this task easier especially for those not collecting a buggy at the Pro Shop.

The field ended up being 94 (80 Men and 14 Ladies), an extremely satisfying result and an indication that members will travel to enjoy playing at top courses. Two new members and two guests were included in the field

Fairways were in excellent condition, but unfortunately we didn’t get to play the re-developed First hole, but see that it will be quite a challenge next year. With some areas of rough still being mown on the day, scoring was made more difficult when Fairway drives strayed. The Greens were at their best and thankfully not lightning fast, enabling players to enjoy Greens as they would like them at every game.

The Urn only took ten minutes to boil and while a Tea or Coffee was appreciated after the trip up the Range, everyone seemed anxious to find their Tees and get on with the game. There are always great Lunch options at City and all finished in time to enjoy their menu choice.

No forty points today and the rundowns went to 31 and 25 indicating the difficulty of scoring. Angie’s 31 points was good enough to take the Ladies trophy but only after a countback. 38 and 39 points won the men’s trophies. Shirley Luhrman and Paul Harbers did the double act again on the 8th hole by winning the Pin Shots there, a feat they also achieved in 2014.

Photos.

1. What a difference a good supply of water makes!

2. Left hander, Bill played a great shot from this bunker.

3. Another left hander. Last week an eagle at Ipswich, this week a Pin Shot on hole 8 and Runner up on the day in Division 1.

4. A time to relax, except for Peter, Bob and John who had to do the cards.

5. One said cheese, another said yes and the third wouldn’t tell me what he said.

The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun start at Boonah on the 7th March.
