There were patches of fog on the trip up the range, but it soon dissipated and, as expected, a fine Summer day followed with no rain and very comfortable playing conditions. Thankfully, the predicted late storm held off until well into the evening.
The field ended up being 88 (71 Men and 17 Ladies), down 20 on the same game last year, but there were quite a few who were with us in spirit but who were otherwise committed. There were five renewing players in the field and one new member.
The Club hosted four days of State Championships the previous week and the Course was still in top condition but with slope ratings of 134 and 130 for the Red and White marker courses, and the good coverage of kikuyu grass on the Fairways, scoring was never going to be easy. The Greens were in excellent condition with only the 8th showing signs of the heavy pounding from well played Tee shots by the top golfers.
Once the Urn boiled all travellers were able to enjoy some nourishment before play. All players finished in plenty of time to order from a great selection of hot meals. The Lucky Number balls remained in Ipswich, but the draw was possible due to Paul Harbers and that very useful ‘smart’ phone of his.
John Hafner was the first player to finish and began to sort the cards. With 37 points his card sat on the top until the last was in and so he got the Division 1 trophy. John Walsh and Di Stanley took ot the other two with Angie and Gana doing a double act to get two of the runner-up trophies. Shirley Luhrman won the Pin shot on the 8th hole for the fourth game in succession. Come on girls, don’t let her get a fifth. Bob Daw played the shot of the day to hole out with his approach shot to the 6th hole. Congratulations Bob.

1. There’s always plenty to attend to before the game.
2. Practice putting never goes astray at City.
3. Maurie always takes care with his Tee shots, but today his efforts fell one short of a trophy.
4. Never mind the set-up, Barry has a plan here to master the hole at last.
5. John played this shot to perfection. Just as well he was entitled to a drop away from the wall.
The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun start at Lowood on the 5th March.
