Thank goodness the temperature today fell well short of 30 degrees because by day’s end it was quite warm. Even the steady wind brought in hot air, but the day concluded without the threat of rain to bring a very pleasant conclusion to our busy year
This year the field was 99 (78 men and 21 ladies) down 16 on last year’s field. There could have been four more but a misadventure kicking a soccer ball, a poorly timed puncture to a tyre and a pair who were saving their efforts for the 27th November kept the number under 100.
The Course had benefitted from the rain, and it was well prepared. Work has started on removing weeds from the Greens and one in particular was very quick as a result. Generally though, the additional available rain water this year saw them very playable, though looking at some of the the scores you wouldn’t think so.
Mary Gibson brought her home cooking out for us for the last time this year and nobody went without. Thanks Mary, and to the bar staff who kept the Time sheets up to date. Four choices on the lunch menu met all needs.
The scores today contrasted enormously from those of last week but that was due to Rosewood being set up as usual for our games and the daily conditions. Joe Hines won Division 2 by 5 shots and Graeme O’Connor had a 2 shot buffer in Division 1. A three way tie necessitated a countback for Shiela Goodbun to take the Ladies Trophy. Michael Schilling chose the 5th hole again for his Nearest the Pin trophies while that ever-lurking surprise winner Paul Skinner took out two Pin Shots.
Photos.
1. Last week this swing brought 51 points. Adrian found a lot can change in a week.
2. Graeme and I had problems here at our last game. Today it was Gary’s turn in the trees.
3. Pam knows where this one will finish without having to watch it.
4. Like many others today, the Hatton Vale four had problems on the Greens.
5. That tree ensured that Wal went backwards several metres from where he had to play his next shot.
The next game is Opening Day 2018 at Rosewood on Monday 29th January. The AGM will follow presentations. Additional information on Opening Day and the Annual General Meeting will be included in the “Notices” section of this website and in the QT in January. The Timesheet for the game will be available at Rosewood Golf Club from Friday 12th of January. Copies of our 2018 programme were distributed to players at our last two games. A copy will be posted on this website by the end of this month. The 2018 Membership Card containing the Game venues and Club Phone Numbers will be available from Opening Day.
All Executive and Committee members have indicated a willingness to serve again next year, but nominations from persons wishing to join them will be accepted up until Thursday 11th January by contacting Bob or Ossie.
A special ‘Thank You’ is extended to all who helped in any way to make 2017 the successful year it was. The Committee hopes to see you all again on 29th January. Compliments of the Season to all.
