For this time of the year, it was ideal fine weather to complete our 2018 Golfing programme. Though the temperature finally reached thirty degrees, the field moved very well and nearly every group finished in under four and a quarter hours.
This year the field was 111 (87 men and 24 ladies) up 12 on the 2017 figures with the very pleasing number of lady players. The early arrival of all on the Timesheet allowed play to get under away a little before time as well. It was unusual for this time of the year, but two new members joined taking us to a record 229 members this year.
The Course had a much better grass cover than the previous game in August and it will improve further if there is good rain.in the coming months. The Greens have shown remarkable improvement, and the grass height indicated they are being carefully prepared to survive the summer heat.
What a treat Mary Gibson put out for our Closing Day. Thanks again Mary, and we also greatly value and appreciate the efforts of the bar staff to weekly update the Time sheets. I believe the delay in the arrival of the lunches brought extra bar trade in the interim.
Two ladies made it a close contest at the head of the field, but in the end Marysha took the trophy by a shot from Dorothy. Nine men all had chances as the scores of 39 or more show and it was left to Cedric and Ken Rogers to take the Closing Day Vouchers with 41 and 42 respectively. A good spread of Clubs were represented in the Pin Shots with Barbara Scott chipping very well to score two of them. Thanks for the Pin Shot and Lucky Numbers donations from Michael Schilling and Joe & Janet Hines.
Photos.
1. Gertie wasn’t waving goodbye to the ball; she was eager to see where her next shot would be from.
2. At least Rainbow found 1, but there were a couple more a bit out of reach in the middle as well.
3. The leaves kept falling all day and many found it easier to just putt through them, but this one was an important one for Glen.
4. It was very advisable to take a drop from here. Whose arm, was it?
5. The result of this careful preparation was the Pin Shot on the second Hole.
6. A great way to finish the year and so happy about it too.
The next game is Opening Day 2019 at Rosewood on Monday 21st January. The AGM will follow presentations. Additional information on Opening Day and the Annual General Meeting will be included in the “Notices” section of this website and in the QT in January. The Timesheet for the game will be available at Rosewood Golf Club from Wednesday 9th of January. Copies of our 2019 programme were distributed to players at our last two games. A copy will be posted on this website by the end of this month. The Official 2019 Membership Card containing the Game venues and Club Phone Numbers will be available from Opening Day.
All Executive and Committee members have indicated a willingness to serve again next year, but nominations from persons wishing to join them will be welcomed and accepted up until Thursday 10th January by contacting Bob or Ossie. An additional one or two on the Committee would be very helpful especially at Presentations, as on occasions illness or absences put a strain on proceedings if only a couple are available.
And finally for 2018, thanks for the cooperation of all Players and Clubs in making our game days so rewarding, and also to those who helped in any way to make 2018 the successful year it was. The Committee hopes to have your company again in 2019. Compliments of the Season to all.
