Event 30 – Rosewood – Closing Day

A Fine day which was made reasonably pleasant by the cooling breeze which blew all day except for the last few holes when it became quite warm. The field moved reasonably well and, after an early 10-minute start, the average playing time was about 4 hours.

The field was 108 (84 Men and 24 Ladies), after the timesheet had 115 a couple of days before Game Day. After the lower attendances at all recent games, it was pleasing to see more than 100 turn out for our Closing Day.

Still no rain, and with the Ground maintenance people doing all they can to prepare the Course to the best possible level, a good rainfall is urgently needed here as it is elsewhere. The Preferred Lie was a great help and the best way of reporting on the Fairways is to say there was plenty of run. The attention being given to restore and retain the Greens is paying off and the height of the cut, though not totally helpful as putts slowed, was well justified in getting through this difficult time. Keep it up Rosewood.

Mary and Lorraine again delighted us all with the welcoming refreshments and the stand-in chef made sure all were catered for.

The trophies today were meat tray vouchers, so competition was very keen. There were three 40-point scores in Division 1 today led by Michael Schillings 42 points, and he almost got balls as his trophy so he would sponsor more Pin Shots. Thanks Michael. Angelo Elape just held on with his 39 points to take Division 2, and as a player fairly new to the game, he thanked Bob Mathers for the assistance he has given him. Didn’t the Ladies have a tussle. There was only 1 point between the top six ladies, so you can imagine the “If only’s” floating around in the clubhouse after the game. Pam Lane held on to win on Countback from Rhonda Williams, who retaliated the next day by winning the trophy at Ipswich.

Photos.

1. No Lucky Number draw win today, Ernie. You used all your luck up in the trees.

2. That ball did miss the trees somehow, and the hoped-for fade (or probably more correctly slice) did result.

3. A good shot here from Helen but not close enough to the Pin to get the Trophy.

4. Joy only permitted this shot if it showed her best profile. The photographer chickened out and played it safe.

5. A good way to draw the year to a close.

All the best to all for the Festive Season and the Committee hopes to see you all back next year. In particular, we hope all Graham’s Hattonvale colleagues find a suitable Course for their 2020 adventures.

The next game on the programme is at Rosewood on Monday 20th January 2020. The Timesheet will be out at Rosewood from the 8th January. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start, and will be followed by the Annual General Meeting. Members wishing to serve on next year’s Committee should advise President Ossie by Friday 10th January. For those who missed getting a copy of the 2020 Programme, it is available on this website.
