Event 3 – Lowood

The temperature forecast was correct, and it reached 38 degrees. Thankfully there was a breeze to make conditions bearable and all players sought tree shade where possible and made sure they had sufficient drinking water. 8 o’clock starts will be considered for the early games next year so that most holes will be completed before the hotter part of the day.

The field was 97 (83 men and 14 ladies) compared with 79 for the corresponding game last year. The influx of new members is certainly being reflected in the attendance figures so far and also for the next two games. The downside was the 5 hours it took to play the game, but players showed great patience and generally kept up with play.

The Course was definitely showing the effects of the dry weather, and like Rosewood earlier in the year, Lowood is urgently in need of a good downpour of rain to get it through the winter period in reasonable condition. The Greens had been well watered and were in top condition.

Bun loaf, Tea and Coffee were again appreciated by players, and even though the day was so hot, the Roast lunch was the ideal meal in the cool of the clubhouse prior to facing the heat on the way to the car for the journey home.

The ‘preferred lies’ helped the scoring, so much so that the men’s Ball Rundown only went to 38 points. Les Smith had his second win of the year with 44 points, and Don McKee took Division 2 with 43 points. Bernadette Bugden enjoyed the golf and was rewarded with a win in the Ladies Division. Pauline Rogers thought she had the shot of the day on hole 2 with 22cms until Graham Doyle went one better and put his shot in the hole. Congratulations Graham.

1. What’s going on here? Five finger pointers at the one time and not one done in anger.

2. A cool spot made the wait to hit off on the second not a bit more bearable.

3. He wasn’t as accurate on the sixth and had to do the same as everyone else and putt out.

4. Now Joe, it wasn’t that great a shot, but then again it still got the job done.

The next game is at Ipswich City on Monday 22nd February. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is available at Rosewood Golf Club. The City (Toowoomba) Timesheet for the game on Monday 29th February is also now available.
