No threat from rain but the expectation of another mid-thirties day had everyone hoping that the humidity was not too high, and so it turned out even though the expected Laidley late morning breeze did not present itself until about half past twelve.
The field was 93 (79 Men and 14 Ladies), a number which was up by 19 on last year’s starters, with many new members getting their first glimpse of the Course. There were 3 new members and 4 returning members. Because groups worked to keep up with play, the game time averaged out at just over the five and a quarter hour mark. Those who have played with the Darling Downs Vets, who play in sixes at nine-hole Courses, suggest that we should give it a go if our fields remain this large, as it knocks about half an hour off the playing time.
The decision to play a Preferred Lie was justified as there were areas of the Fairways which were greatly affected by the hot conditions, and which have not had the rain necessary to recover. The Greens, however, were in top condition and a pleasure to play on.
The early arrivals got away from the check-in area and relaxed in groups with their timely refreshments and waited for the call to their Tees.
Only one score of 40 today by Ken Marschke so he had to get the trophy. Jim Gilbert couldn’t contain himself after his Division 2 win on countback, and Angie led the ladies who had submitted correct cards. One returned card had the score on one hole missing and this was costly for the owner. The provision of a laptop by the Club exhibiting the Golflink page was appreciated by all those who needed to check their handicaps.

1. They relaxed too much. Got two Pin Shots but no other trophies, but John did find Les Smith’s new Yellow ball.
2. Not a good lie, but a good recovery Ron.
3. Bob hasn’t sold his Buggy. We have two canary yellow ones now thanks to Gary.
4. The busiest place after the game and Milton handled it well.
