Event 3 – Laidley

It’s great to be back online after some hitches with the Web connection. Thanks for your patience. Graham Wilson has filled in as photographer in my absence and photos will be added as they are processed.

The weather continued in the challenging mid 30 degrees but was not as big a concern as the necessity to play from Tees and the extra time taken for each group to play a hole. Hopefully we will see rain soon so that Ground Staff throughout the District to get back to what they do best.

The field was 84 (66 Men and 18 Ladies), which was 4 more Ladies than last year, while the men were 13 down. There was 1 new member, and he got off to a great start with us by winning the Division 1 trophy.

The necessity of ‘Tee Up’ in the ‘General Area’, formerly known as ‘Through the Green”, indicated the troubles the club is experiencing in making the Course ready for play. The right to chip to the Green from areas close to them allowed a fair bit of ‘Texas Wedge’ play as well also. Thankfully the Greens were able to be kept in good condition and caused no concern to most players.

A hot cup of tea or coffee on arrival, a welcoming chat or two, and play got under way 10 minutes early. The salad lunch was most welcome also.

It was expected that 40 or more points would be necessary for a trophy, and those over 40 all got one. Gary Carter and Jim Guest’s 40’s just got them balls. Janine Hauser and New member, Ron Roberts, had the top score of 43 points, while Kev Vollbrecht got histrophy on countback from Gana. On hole 2, Graham Wilson thought he had the approach with 24cm only to see Chris Petrohilos put his shot only 12cm from the hole.

1. It’s a sad fact that the Course really is this dry.

2. It took a long time to get an action shot like this.

3. On many parts of the Course there was little action at all on occasions.

4. Just a check to see that the putt did go in.

The next game is at Ipswich City on Monday 25th February. It is an 8.30am Shotgun start. The following game is at Lowood on Monday 4th March.
