Event 29 – Ipswich City

There was some doubt that the weather would stay fine, but even though the clouds were very grey at times only a couple of sprinkles eventuated, and the day actually finished in sunshine. With all arriving in good time, the field was dispatched by 8.25am.

The field size was the same as in July, 86 (68 men and 18 ladies) and one new member was welcomed. Registration proceeded very smoothly following the efforts of Captain Pete to have the cards pre-printed before the game. Additional cards were quickly printed for a couple of late arrivals. Entering the results on the computer after the game also went as smoothly as expected.

The recent rain and the efforts of the Ground Staff have really made a difference to the Course. After overnight rain it was decided to make all Bunkers G.U.R. much to the noisy delight of most players. This was some compensation for a lack of run on the grassed-up Fairways. The Greens were in top condition even though at this time of the year they are not too closely mown.

Tea, coffee and biscuits started the day off well and the choice of snacks for after game sustenance gave a good variety of choices. The pork rolls were particularly tasty.

Those who have played with Ossie Baker recently were totally surprised when his card revealed a score of 47 points to win Division 2. But that’s golf. Bob Ellison’s 43 was the second best score of the day for a Division 1 win. Ailsa Brown had to win another countback from Gaye Geldard to take the Ladies trophy. Richard Winrow nearly missed his Pin Shot win on the 14th hole when John Farnbach left with the Pin in his bag.

1. Who will choose the Lucky Number today?

2. It’s marvelous what you can learn in these early morning discussions!

3. They’re anxious to get on with the game. It’s great to see the Fairways so green.

4. A bit close to the edge of the Green, Des, but not a bad place to putt from.

The next game is at Rosewood on Monday 23rd of November. It is Closing Day for 2015 and will be an 8.30am Shotgun start.
