Comfortable Spring weather deserted us, and we had an early taste of a high 30’s Summer Day. Thankfully there was a breeze and the motion of the motorised buggies for most players to make the temperature bearable, at least for the majority of the day.
The field was 91 (73 men and 18 ladies), 34 fewer than the game in May, but the weather may well have something to do with that, unless most of the missing players were away in Melbourne for a day or two. Bob again took on the onerous and time-consuming task of preparing the cards again and this may be discontinued in 2019, even though it saved many members the effort of checking handicaps and handicapper the task of disqualifying those with wrong handicaps.
The Course has benefitted from the seasonal rain, but Preferred Lie was necessary to provide players with every chance to play successful shots. The Greens were again in immaculate condition and were the equal of the best we have played this year. Thankfully, the Corellas have decided the plastic predators suspended around the Greens were too great a threat, and had headed elsewhere for the day.
A new placement position for the Urn made for easier access and players made the most of it. Though orders for lunch were only taken after the game, meals were served in good time.
No countback needed to determine the winners today but they were three of the nine to have 40 points or more. New player, John Ballin, missed the chance to join other new members this year to win at their first game with us when Garry Rodgers with 44 points just pipped him. Garry and another winner, Bruce Thorogood, doubled up with Pin Shots as well.
Photos.
1. The pre-printed cards in alphabetical order made things easy for all except for Bob.
2. Don still has to adjust his stance for this drive on 17.
3. It was hot today, but Vic wasn’t looking for shade at this location.
4 A great camera shot. At first sight, Barry seems to be swinging an iron, but closer inspection reveals that, in fact, it is his driver.
5. A happy group celebrating with Garry after his fine 45 points.
6. A hurried shot here as Bruce started to tell me how he won today.
