Event 29 Ipswich City

A mid-twenties temperature and a good cloud cover all day made for one of the most comfortable playing days this year. Even the possibility of showers from the darkening clouds didn’t dampen spirits.

The number of players today was a disappointing 53(41 men and 12 ladies), 14 fewer than the game in August. The positive was the fact that everybody who ended up playing were ready to start play by 10 past 8 and they left for their Tees just after quarter past.

The Fairays have started to respond to the recent showers but need a lot more water yet to get good grass cover throughout the Course. The Greens have come on well after the recent scarifying but the grass is still coarse and longer than it will be when they fully recover.

The biscuits arrived on time today much to the delight of the tea and coffee drinkers and the current Club lunch menu offerings were available after play for the smaller number who waited for Presentations..

The winner and runner-up in Division 2 both had 41 points, the best score of the day but Glen Kelly got the trophy on countback. There was a countback for the Ladies and in Division 2 but they were for runner-up in both cases. Mary Smith and John Hafner won them with 35 and 40 points. But the shot of the day was Ted Goodbun’s third shot on the 13th for a 3. He said, “I just wanted to hit the Green, and it finished in the hole”. Congratulations Ted.

Photos:

1. The cloud build-up late in the game looked ominous for some time but eventually proved to be no disruption to the day’s golf.

2 A good drive by Keith and the shot he played from here wasn’t bad either.

3. Neil must have top-dressed the Ipswich Fairways at least once because of the attention he gives them every time he plays.

4. An uncharacteristic Les Smith second shot put him in here, but the next one landed on the Green.

5. Ted Goodbun retrieving his ball from the hole on the13th green after scoring his eagle.

6. Two holes later and he still hasn’t wiped the smile off his face.

The next game is at Rosewood on Monday 20th November. It is Closing Day for 2023. The Timesheet for this game is now available at Rosewood.
