Event 28 – Lowood

Our first totally overcast day of the year with a maximum temperature of 24 predicted which only peaked at 21. It was chilly in the slight breeze, and many wished that they had brought coats. Thankfully, one period of light showers after about seven holes was short lived and enabled the day’s game to be completed

The roll-up was 87 (67 men and 20 ladies) including one new member and play got underway on time. Players had no difficulty keeping up with play as the usual areas of backing-up at the par three holes caused stoppages and provided catch up opportunities.

The Course had started to respond to the recent rain and will be in top condition as the new grass spreads, but the Preferred Lie was still needed for relief on many lies where this still has to happen. The Greens have still to fully recover as well but generally were pretty good.

Lowood is a good venue for a chat before the game and players again made the most of this. The lunch menu system was working well with no mix-ups because of the different coloured tickets for the two choice two course meal so promptly provided.

Ross Grant’s 45 points was by far the best of the day with a total of eleven scores in the 40’s, which would have been twelve except for an indiscretion leading to a disqualification. In the Ladies competition, where there were 20 in the field, Janelle Browning’s 39 got her home on countback.

Photos.

1. A first for the Association, with our three 90-year old’s in the field for the first time this year.

2. OK to putt now Bob, Miguel’s 79cm Pin Shot is safely recorded on the sheet.

3 Jon checks whether it is safe to hit yet while Ernie just relaxes.

4. Both Barb and Rhonda could have won the trophy today with one fewer of these during their Rounds.

5. Why wouldn’t she be happy since she was lucky not to miss hit off today, had lunch kept for her and then won the Ladies Trophy on countback.

The next game is at Ipswich City on Monday 5th November. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start.
