Event 28 – Lowood

A consistently overcast day with a cool breeze most of the time which probably kept the Showers at bay. The temperature only reached 24 degrees.

The starting field was 81(60men and 21 ladies), a number which moved steadily with the only slight delays occurring at the Par 3’s. Most players finished in four to four and a quarter hour, and there 2 new members.

The Course had good grass covering and the ground staff were kept busy getting the rough under control. The Greens had just recently been cored, and the grass could not be cut to the usual length and some players adapted to it better than others.

A new touch, with fresh cake to go with our tea and coffee which was very well received. The new caterers gave a good choice for the meal after the game.

Husband and wife, June and Nick Nicholls, both scored in the 40’s to win two of the trophies, although Nick’s was on countback. Cedric Payne couldn’t match those scores but his 37 was good enough to win Division 2. With the numbers today Bob was able to put on 5 pins, so a few balls were shared around after the game.

1. A Club everyone loves to come to, and we’re always made to feel welcome.

2. The difference between a game of cards and golf is that you can’t have five of a kind at cards.

3. Cedric played a great shot to 18 inches from the hole after Miguel wouldn’t give him root relief.

4. Miguel kept away from tree roots because he knew he wouldn’t be given relief either.

5. It’s good to relax after a busy day on the Course.

The next game is at Ipswich City on Monday 15th November. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start.
