Early showers didn’t deter any players and a fine warm 31degrees day followed. It was our warmest day for quite some time but still well short of the record 41.3 degrees we experienced here at the same time last year.
The temperature may have been ten degrees down on last year, but the Field was up by twenty-two to 86 (69 men and 17 ladies). Concerns of long delays were overcome when players co-operated to keep the Field moving with the only real hold-ups happening at the second and fourth Tees. The well-placed Jacaranda on the fourth provided great shade and allowed some interesting inter-group conversations. Clubs, like Lowood, who now see greater use of Buggies by our ageing members, where they are able to, have increased their Buggy numbers, or are using members Buggies, and are not having to turn players away on big days.
Preferred lies on the Fairway being played were in place today because of some bare patches under repair but were hardly needed. Though the Course needed rain, watering of relevant areas of the Fairways had them very playable. The Greens were just that bit slow but true, understandable at this time of year after maintenance and in an effort to get them through the summer.
The usual top catering efforts by club volunteers ensured the enjoyment of fresh buns for a morning calmer and the choice of two roasts and hot vegies main meal after play.
Seventeen players today had 40 or more points and three ocb’s were needed to determine the top six trophy winners. Score of the day was Col Hallam’s 47 points. Last year Graham Doyle had an eagle. This year it was Jim Collins only taking three shots on the 488 metre 8th hole. Pam Lane had two great Pin Shots on the 2nd/11th hole. On the 2nd her shot measured 49cm and on the 14th the measure was 52cm. Needless to say, she won the Pin Shot.
Photos.
1. The most colourful part of the Course with plenty of shade into the bargain.
2. We know why Charles is in front of the Tee markers. Shirley hopes he lifts his trajectory at Middle Ridge on Monday.
3. It’s not like Rainbow to have to use the long stick near a water hazard.
4 The first of Pam’s 50cm putts for Birdie on this hole.
5. Well fed and now for a time to chat.
