Event 26 – Laidley

The storm season has begun and thankfully to date they have been late in the day. We were fortunate to get through the day with players reporting ony one distant sound of thunder to the north. Later in the day there was a storm, but the rain was only light until all players would have arrived home.

The field was 84 (64 Men and 21 Ladies), a comfortable number to get players back in the clubhouse in under 5 hours. after play got underway on time. The second and the seventh holes seemed to be the ones where some hold-ups occurred.

The dry conditions has caused the grass on Fairways to struggle and the Preferred Lie helped players on most of them. The Greens have fared much better because of the watering but were somewhat slower than usual because of the care being taken to ensure they get through this period.

The welcome mat was out as usual, and the atmosphere was very pleasant as players socialised. The provision of the computer to help establish handicaps was very much appreciated also. The lunch menu choices were promptly supplied after the game.

The Course proved harder for Division 1 with Bob Heathwood winning with 38 points while Division 2 and the Ladies Divisions were taken by Jim Guest with 44 points and Shiela Goodbun with 41. Rod Turnbull won his Pin Shot on the 8th with his first shot of the day while Ken Rogers ran his shot on to the 2nd Green through the bunker before easing it to 60 cm for the win. Des Damm was delighted with his 44cm measure on the 7th to claim one of the others.

Photos.

1. Has Des got his shoes on the wrong feet?

2. With that ant nest so close Les took less time setting up for this shot.

3. Ernie got out of this one with a top shot.

4. The other Ernie was happy to see the result of his shot here.

5. Jerry still needs more practice to play left-handed in these situations.

6. Bob and Shiela both pensive after their top rounds today.

The next game on the programme is at Sandy Gallop on Monday 22nd October and will be the Annual day run by Sandy Gallop Club. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start.
