Event 25 – City (Toowoomba)

As today’s Course was Toowoomba the warm jackets were out again, but even though they were welcome early in the day, they were soon discarded by most players and the freshness in the air made conditions very pleasant.

The field ended up being 87(72 Men and 15 Ladies), just one less than for the earlier game this year. There were two new members and two visitors from the Downs District. Play got underway on time as none got lost this time and there were no hold-ups because of the roadworks below the range.

The Course was in its usual top condition, but the bunkers proved that once again they had to be avoided if you were going to have a good score. Those who stayed on Fairways had lush grass under the ball for the shots to the Greens. The Greens themselves were not as slick as in February but still needed every care to avoid three-putts.

The issue of the Social Membership cards now needed for ‘Member’s prices was delayed until after the game, but once distributed, all made good use of them. The good point is that they are valid for 12 months.

Ron Pflugrath won Division 2 from Bernie Moore with 37 points after a 3-way countback and spoilt an Esk quinella as Dennis Misso’s 38, the best of the day, took Division 1. Marysha Boonstoppel led in the Ladies with her 34 points, and local, Debbie Routh, was suitably rewarded for her 35 points.

1. We don’t often see the fountains, but when they are turned on, they are a good reminder or the hazard they beautify. Bill was in no way fazed by this shot to the Green.

2. Joy took great care with her putt here because the line was eagerly watched by two who still had to play theirs.

3. This nesting box had an intruder which had thick fur. It’s identity has not yet been discovered.

4. The meal being enjoyed by birthday boy Garry and his group.

5. Another group which finished off the day in style.

The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun start at Laidley on the 8th October.
