A very pleasant day for golf in Toowoomba. The buggies were readily available from the City Pro Shop staff, and with the prompt arrival of all players, play got underway on time after everyone was able to enjoy a tea or coffee to settle the nerves.
The field ended up being 76(64 Men and 12 Ladies), a surprising 11 fewer than for the same game last year. We had one returning member for his first game this year and one very adventurous one who took the new road to Toowoomba and extended his trip by 20 minutes.
The use of a Preferred Lie was a new experience here but there was little need to invoke it in most areas of the Fairway. The Greens provided the usual challenge and it was here that players would have welcomed a Preferred Lie closer to the hole after their original putt went flying past it. The steady breeze that stayed all day could not be blamed for most of these.
Forty points was a target too far away today, and if any lady had 30 she would have taken the trophy. The winners, John Piccini, Des Hastie and Angie Arumugam all showed surprise that they had topped the scoring in their Divisions. Marysha Boonstoppel didn’t need a second shot to take the Pin Shot on the 8th as her Tee shot was only about 40 cms from the hole and would have won it anyway.
Photos.
1. Playing through sprinklers was a new experience for the Esk group.
2. There isn’t a challenge like at Esk either for this shot to the 15th Green.
3.Ted watched this one very carefully as it didn’t quite go in the anticipated direction.
4. Probably they’ve just finished listening to a replay of Marysha’s top shot on the 8th.
5. Why wouldn’t Des be happy. He had quite a big group just one shot behind his winning 34 points.
The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun start at Laidley on the 30th September.
