With the weather starting to warm up, the chill is now off the first part of the day, and many have put their Winter wear away. Conditions were perfect for player comfort and the steady breeze ensured it stayed that way. Players headed off to their Tees just after 8.20am.
The field contained 102 players (89 men and 13 ladies) five up on last year, and the first time we’ve reached the 100 mark at this venue. It certainly made sure of a good number staying for the cutting of Allan Alloway’s 90th birthday cake. We now have three members in their 90’s.
The Course had very good grass cover and there was no need for the use of a preferred lie. Some of the Greens were not handling the dry weather that well, and will really welcome the Renovation work next week.
New Manager, Frank, was very helpful in having the Clubhouse set up for our day and the clearly displayed lunch options were helpful and appreciated.
The scores indicated that many were able to make a decent attempt to handle some of the more daunting areas of the Course. Jim Guest fared best with his 42 points with Debbie Holland close with her 41. Les Smith got the Division 1 trophy with a grinding 37 while Lyle Robson had to stave off a seven card countback to get Runner-up. Pauline Rogers again took the 13th hole Pin shot by lowering last year’s distance from 21 to 3cm.

1. The peaceful scene from the Clubhouse patio which had no peacocks around it this year.
2. Relaxing and getting ready for the day.
3. Wayne sharpens up his putting before play but just fell short out on the Course with his 36 points.
4. Doug wasn’t as worried about his shot as the Roo was about Doug’s intentions.
5. The birthday boy, Allan Alloway, cutting his cake and it wasn’t just a timid cut but a great wedge to help Lyn and Pauline to give everyone a taste.
The next game will be at Toowoomba City on Monday 24th September. Remember, it is an 8.30am Shotgun start.
