Event 24 – Laidley

The early clouds dispersed and resulted in a fine dry day with just a gentle breeze. The temperature only started to cause a search for shade later in the day.

The field was 60 (50 Men and 10 Ladies), and with a field this size play moved at a good steady rate. There was little difficulty with Handicaps for a change and only one group went to the old first hole instead of the new one to start the day.

Into Spring and the Course has held up well during Winter and now some welcome early rain will really have it in great shape. The Greens were still in good condition with a good variety of Pin positions.

The usual Laidley welcome with a boiling urn started the day off well and the top meals available after play brought it to an appreciative conclusion.

Arthur Green and Doug Walsh took the honours today with 40 points each in good lead up games to next week’s Championship final Round, and Shirley Luhrman has maintained her top play with 36 points and an eye to a Trophy next week. Brett Sweeting won the Division 1 Pin Shot on Hole 2 with a shot which had every chance of being a hole in one until the final couple of rolls.

Photos. None today as there was limited opportunity to get good ones.

The next game is at Brisbane River on Monday 27th September. It is an 8.30am Shotgun start. It will also be the second Round of this year’s Championships with Stroke and Stableford competitions.
