After a cool start the temperature reached the mid-twenties and proved ideal conditions for a golf game in Toowoomba. However, in the back of our minds was the shock news that Esk member, Rod Hangan, had passed away while playing a Pennants game for Esk at Sandy Gallop on Sunday. Rosewood member, Bob Ellison, felt unwell after arriving at the Club, and collapsed while entering the Clubhouse. Members of his group and a groundsman rendered assistance until the Ambulance arrived, and after treatment he was taken to hospital for further attention.
The Committee was unable to explain the lack of support for this game especially as the earlier game this year was cancelled because of the weather. Players only numbered 42 (36 men and 6 ladies), and some thought will now be given to the choice of games next year as numbers have been generally poor at most Courses all year.
The Course had the expected great grass coverage after the rain it has received. Like most clubs, City will be hoping for a break from the rain to allow the Course to dry out a bit. The run on the Course was limited and most of the Greens were the opposite, as the final scores will show.
Tea and Coffee were available near the entrance on our arrival and bar Coffee was available as well. The lunch range was its usual high standard.
Monty Christie and Graeme Sharpe had 38 and 37 points to wrap up Division 2, and Neale Porter and Lyn Baker took the other two Divisions with 34 and 36 points respectively.
No photos today as the opportunities were few and far between.
The next game is at Laidley on Monday 17th October and the Timesheet is now available at Rosewood.
