We hoped the Weather Bureau was wrong, but unfortunately the prediction of 32 degrees proved to be true. However, the West to North Westerly winds blowing kept players reasonably comfortable, though with a dry Course, the dust generated was avoided by trying not to follow the Buggy in front too closely.
The field was 84 (73 Men and 11 Ladies), including 9 players from Woodford, a little disappointing, but understandable following two weeks of Single Stroke play and the Flu which is taking its toll across the State.
Oh, for some rain to help restore some green to the Fairways. It must be hard for the Groundstaff to know that the restoration is out of their hands. Of course that meant plenty of run, but most found it hard to judge how to stop the ball from going through the Green. The Greens were well prepared for us, but there were many instances where an even roll could not be guaranteed.
Some players didn’t realise that it was a 9.00am hit-off, so they a greater time to socialise and to enjoy the top serving of Mary Gibson’s fresh pikelets and nibblies. Thanks Mary. The two lunch choices received a good number of orders and proved very tasty.
Two scores on 40 today and they won the Men’s Divisions for Wayne Cooper and Kev Vollbrecht, though Kev had a close call from playing partner, Col Hallam, who had 39, the next best of the day. Noted for her ability to hit low shots, the weather and Course were favourable for Joy Wilson for her three shot win in the Ladies field. Rod Turnbull had his second eagle in two years with this year’s coming on the 13th hole. Norm Silley, with 35 points, has now won the Woodford trophy in consecutive visits.
Photos.
1. Richard took his time on this shot into the wind and his patience paid off.
2. It took some time to get this shot with the Mickey hoping the wind didn’t dislodge the eggs from its nest.
3. Shot 1 for Larry, and after it hit a tree and glanced off him it finished behind him, and he had to do it all over again.
4. Congratulations on the win last week Terry, but it was a bit harder today.
5. Peter and Vic playing hosts to former member, Barry Spann, and Norm Silley, today’s Woodford winner.
