It was an ideal day for golf with a breeze to keep players honest and an increase in daily temperatures now a result of the coming of Spring. Late in the day it actually got quite warm. The President got off to a bad start when he was locked in the Clubhouse and couldn’t get out until one of Laurie’s children fetched his father.
The field was 50 (39 men and 11 ladies), down slightly because of some late withdrawals and others on trips. It was a good number to get an even flow of the field. With a late change to the starting Tees for the Shotgun start, back-ups at the 5/14 hole were pretty well averted even though there was a possibility of clashes because of the speed at which some groups were able to play.
Last year’s game at Hattonvale was in May and a check of the photos showed the Course in terrific condition. This year the Course at this time was very dry, but with preferred lies this was no great inconvenience. As they do not have Fairway watering, the timing of this game will be looked at for 2016.
The shotgun start put the pressure on the Hattonvale kitchen, but the staff served players in the order they ordered, and all were well satisfied with only a short delay.
Because of the run on the Course, scoring was expected to be high, and so it proved with all winners scoring in the 40’s. Kev Neimeyer’s 45 was the best of the day but Nev Emmerson’s 42 and Rhonda Williams’ 41 were enough to win their Divisions. Not only that, but all three were in the same group. No one can remember that happening before. Rainbow went home with a swag of balls after his eagle on hole 17. The possible challenge by a neighbour’s dog didn’t eventuate and no First Aid kit was needed this year.
Photos.
1. The Course was pretty dry after winter, but it will soon recover with some rain.
2. Great style Sel, that break you had must have fixed something up.
3. The social part of the day and the setting at Hattonvale helps in that regard.
4. The record makers. Three winners in the one group and Bob went along to make up the four.
The next game will be at Wolston Park on Monday 21st September. The following game is at Laidley on Monday 28th September. Both are 8.30am Shotgun starts.
