A perfect day for golf with only a light breeze to contend with. No road works to slow travellers down but quite a few of the constabulary in evidence along the way, much to the distress of one player just before Esk.
The timing of this trip will have to be reviewed as only 41 players (35 men and 6 ladies) travelled up to Woodford. Those who did travel all arrived in good time and after a tea or coffee dispersed to their Tees to get play underway on time. The total field was 120 as Woodford ran its Pumistone District Open Day in conjunction and it proved a hit with such a good-sized field.
When finalising arrangements on Friday I was told that the Course could do with some rain. On the drive up the hill to the Clubhouse the beautiful Green sight we encountered made us glad that any rain came after the game. It was a pleasure to play and the Greens were excennent also. Those playing in the State Fourball Championships next week got in some good practice.
A change from the usual Woodford hotbox meal today, replaced by a selection of Burger combinations which were very tasty. Shotgun starts do place pressure on catering after the game though.
The best two scores of the day were 43’s recorded by Nev Halls and Terry Hastie who finished as Winner and Runner-up in Division 2. Angie Arumugam was Ladies Runner-up for the Ladies and Jim Ward got a Voucher also because the District pays second Runner-up as well. Of the eight Pin shots we collected three with Peter Cook, Doug Dann and Ossie Baker successful. Woodford always give a ball for Birdies on hole 17 and we took home the balls through Nev Halls, Ossie Baker and Maurie Clem.
Photos.
1. This one didn’t quite make it. Better have another go Wayne.
2. Keep it to the left and it will feed down to the flag Jim. You’re scoring well enough to get a Voucher.
3. You can’t just put your card in. Please join the queue.
4. A happy group. Nev knew his 43 points would be hard to beat.
The next Home game is at Hattonvale on Monday 14th September. It is an 8.30am Shotgun start.
