Event 22 Rosewood – 2023 Championships Round 2

2nd Round of the 2023 Championships
Sponsored by Queensland Country Bank

The Weather today was just what we all wanted. A fine day with the Temperature reaching a very comfortable 26 degrees. No showers, partial cloud cover occasionally, and a breeze which caused no problems for balls not already travelling away from the centre of the Fairway.

75 (59 men and 16 ladies) hit off with great expectations, five fewer than last week when illness, a call to work and other commitments caused a bit of a falloff in numbers. There were some great Day 1 scores recorded, and most were hoping for a repeat to have a chance to take home a trophy, and a few did.

The Course was in a similar condition to that presented last week, and the freshly mown Greens were just a little faster than last week, and the Pin placements a bit more generous, but those not coming on strongly to the hole often had it turning away in the last few rolls. Graham Hauser was alert enough to warn others of the snake in the garden near the Green on the 12th hole.

Mary was first to the Club today to make sure the Urn was boiling, and the cups were aligned ready for thirsty arrivals. Not only the Fresh sandwiches went down well for lunch, but some were spied enjoying a hot pie or sausage roll.

The ‘Results’ report contains a detailed list of all the Trophy winners, and Bob and John are to be congratulated on their efforts to provide the name of all trophy recipients in very quick time. Second time winner, Shiela Goodbun, and first-time winner Heinz Knubel, were really overwhelmed with their 36 Hole Nett Championship wins. Chris Petrohilos again won the Gross Trophy and Debbie Zahno won the Ladies Gross. Shirley Morgan, was the inaugural winner of the Ladies Over 80’s Trophy. Hopefully, numbers will allow this to become an annual offering.

Photos:

1. Thanks to Angelo for his athleticism in providing photos of this mother and her young one crossing their Fairway and then climbing a tree. After all, the Koala is the Rosewood Golf Club emblem, and it deserves to be the first of today’s photos. The video that Neale Porter snapped couldn’t be used.

2. The 2023 Champions. They will now have the Trophy for 6 months each.

3. Debbie won the battle for the Ladies Gross Trophy.

4. Joe might lose his Photographer’s job for not waiting for Dennis and Ossie get ready for this one.

5 Shirley is very pleased to be the first winner of her age trophy.

The next game is at Gailes on Monday 4th September. It is an 8.30am Shotgun start.
