2nd Round of the 2018 Championships
Sponsored by Queenslanders Credit Union
Similar weather to that enjoyed last week and with players arriving on time, play got under way right on 8.30am.
There is always a drop-off in numbers from day 1 to day 2 and today was no exception. Interestingly, the number of starters was the same as last year, with one man fewer and one lady more making the field 88 (69 men and 19 ladies). Captain Bob again had the cards pre-printed which saved a lot of checking later in the day.
Thankfully the Course renovations don’t start until next week and with the 10mms of rain, not only was it not so dusty but there were already glimpses of new grass growth.yesterday. The Greens were probably slightly better than last week because of the rain.
The trial of a computer-generated result went extremely well until the printer failed to work. Presentations were delayed for a short while, but we won’t be caught on that one again. The score of the day was Keith Sippel’s 63 nett which gave him the Championship from Graham Johnson and Graham Hauser by a single shot, and from 90 year old Ron Pflugrath by 4 shots. In the ladies, Debbie Holland followed up her 68 with a steady 70 to take the Ladies trophy. John Hunter wasn’t worrying too much about his score after his Hole in One on the 5th. Congratulations John and to both Champions and the winners of the other 36hole events. Full results are available on the IDVGA website. Ossie Baker was very touched by the recognition of his 20 years as President and could not have stayed that long except for the support of a succession of very capable Captains and a very understanding wife.

1. Janine’s advice must have been spot on as Graham responded with a major trophy.
2. A check of last week’s scores puts everything in perspective.
3. Congratulations Debbie, our first Wolston Park Champion.
4. Lyn and Ossie appreciated very much the presentation on behalf of the members.
The next game is at Esk on Monday 3rd September. It will be a 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheets for the game at Toowoomba City on Monday 24th September as well as for the game at Wolston Park on Monday 17th September will both be out that day.
