2nd Round of the 2017 Championships
Sponsored by Queenslanders Credit Union
As we had hoped, the day turned out to be a fine one with the temperature in the low 20’s, which would have made it perfect except for the moderate West/North Westerly winds that came into play in the middle section of the Round. Even so, those who used them downwind enjoyed the benefits.
Late withdrawals brought the field back from 92 to 88 (70 men and 18 ladies), but it was good to see the presence of 4 players in the field who were absent the previous week turn up to play in the daily competition. Captain Bob again put in a terrific effort on Sunday afternoon to have the cards printed on our arrival. It was great not to have to check handicaps before announcing the results. Thanks to you Bob and to Ron Pflugrath and your helpers for getting through the onerous task of working out the Trophy winners.
The Course set up for the District Pennants on the Sunday saw some interesting Pin placements, but once again Bob had an early check of Tee markers to ensure they were in positions all of our players could handle. The Course and Greens were in a condition very similar to how they played in Round 1.
Unfortunately, a glitch in the printout of the results caused a switch to additional manual calculations which in turn delayed Presentations, and the attendance for them suffered as a result. Nevertheless, they went ahead, and the efforts of the successful players were duly recognised and rewarded. A later double-check revealed the necessity to make some adjustments to these results and the ‘Results’ section of this website now has the final list of Trophy winners. Two Nett totals in the 130’s resulted in big wins in both Divisions. As expected, Terry Haslam’s low Round last week and a safe 73 Nett today saw him coast to an easy Men’s Championship win, and Lyn Baker went one better this week in recording a Nett 68 to win the Ladies Championship. Congratulations to both. Chris Petrohilos shot 77, the best Round of the Championships, to win the Men’s Gross and Pauline Rogers put in a second 89 to take the Ladies Gross. Peter Smollen and Shiela Goodbun won the Over 70’s events with the evergreen Peter Roche winning the ‘Golden Oldies” trophy.
John Hafner wasn’t worrying too much about his score after his Hole in One on the 14th. Congratulations John. Queenslanders Credit Union representative, a welcome Russell Phillips, again very ably presented the trophies after joining us for a game, though he was careful not to reveal his result. Thanks ever so much Russell. We really appreciate the assistance we receive from Queenslanders and for your help on the day. See the ‘Results’ section for the full list of trophy recipients.

1. The challenging 14th hole. Some heartbreak here today, but not for all. See photo below.
2. A well-deserved Hole in One for Committeeman John Hafner on the 14th, and he hadn’t arranged for the photographer to be there either.
3. Gaye was keen to see that Barry’s ball didn’t finish where hers did on the 16th.
4. Peter and Ray relax with their group after Peter’s win in the Over 80’s and Ray’s win of the Division 1 Nett Trophy.
5. Ladies Champ, Lyn Baker, receiving her trophy from the Sponsor’s rep, Russell Phillips.
