Ist Round of the 2016 Championships
The predicted late morning shower did not eventuate but it’s to be hoped the prediction of rain on Wednesday will prove correct to give the Course a much-needed soaking. The weather was very pleasant, and more players are reverting to shorts as the days turn warmer.
The field was 96 (76 Men and 20 Ladies), including a visitor from New South Wales. Peter had the cards printed so there were no incorrect handicaps for John to report today. The field got away early and kept a good pace for most of the day.
The Preferred Lie was extended to ‘through the Green’ as it was difficult to determine the Fairway in some areas. There was plenty of run on the dry Course except for the lush areas of clover which thankfully were mown before play. The Greens are still a work in progress, but well weighted and directed putts found the hole on most occasions.
Mary excelled again today with her platters before play. Thanks Mary. A very good meal choice for lunch which was most enjoyable with another one predicted for next week, but with a different but equally delicious menu.
Ken Marschke’s win last week was just a warmup as he came in with a 66 today, the day’s best score, but there are quite a few lapping at his heels only a couple of shots away. Carolyn Pfeiffer leads the ladies competition, a situation she found hard to believe after a hard day at the office. Rod Mangan is hitting the ball pretty well, so much so that he ended up with 2 Pin Shots. Everyone went home a winner as each was given a ball before play.
Photos.
1. Always so particular with his set up, and it usually pays off.
2. One of the many from the trees, only this one made it to the Fairway.
3. Some concern here over the measurement, but there was no need to worry as it was good enough to take the Pinshot for Keith.
4. Plenty to think about after the game for improving for the second-Round next week.
The next game, the 2nd Round of the Championships, is at Rosewood on Monday 29th August. It is an 8.30am Shotgun start. Players who are not involved in the Championships are welcome to play. The following game is at Toogoolawah on Monday 5th September. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start.
