Event 21 – Ipswich – 2022 Championships Round 2

2nd Round of the 2022 Championships
Sponsored by Queensland Country Bank

Some intermittent early morning misty rain was never a real threat to the day’s event, and it soon cleared after hit-off to usher in a fine day not spoiled when some heavy clouds gathered in the South West towards the end of the day.

Another disappointing field size, 61(51 men and 10 ladies), but they were all keen to get on with the game, and those not wishing to play a stroke Round chose the alternative, a comfortable Stableford game.

The Course had a fairly good grass cover for this time of the year, but to make the playing surface as even as possible for all players, a preferred lie was used and appreciated. The Greens, unfortunately, were far below the high standard of the first game here this year, with the remnants of the dollar spot infestation causing many bouncy putts.

The usual morning Tea and Coffee had the additional bonus of glasses for the water also provided by the friendly stafff members. After the game, the Club menu was available for thoe choosing to lunch while waiting for Presentations, which proceeded in a little over a half hour after the last card was in.

The two consistent rounds of Cedric Payne gave him the low score of the Championships,140, which included 2 shots fewer on Day 2, and the male Championship. Early male leaders, Lindsay Allen and Rob Walker again played well for 144, and were the Division winners. Lyn Baker had 3 strokes more on the second day than she had on the first day, but that was enough to win the Ladies Championship by 2 shots. Chris Petrohilos and Ros Englund were the clear Gross winners.

Congratulations to all trophy winners and thanks to all for turning up and giving it a go. 1997 and 1998 Champions, John Maxwell and Peter Roche, played both rounds this year.
