Care was needed travelling in the heavy fog with visibility down to no more than 100 metres. Thankfully it lifted for later arrivals and, as usual, a fine day followed. The only negative was the strong breeze which needed some care to offset on both upward and downward shots.
The field was 96 (69 Men and 27 Ladies), seven down on our earlier game which could have been surpassed except that buggy seemed to be unavailable, but two of which were available but not claimed. Players are aked to ensure they cancel unwanted buggies to avoid this in future. The great news was that 27 ladies played, the largest number in recent times. Two more players joined, and one renewed his membership.
The Course was really showing the effects of the Winter and the need of a good downpour of rain and the Preferred Lie was put to good use. The Greens have shown much improvement, but the ground staff are hoping the extra attention they are giving will pay off in the Spring.
The morning Tea was a sight to behold on arrival and we all deeply appreciate the effort that Mary puts into it each Vets Day. Lunch is again in the hands of Craig from Banjo’s Bar and both menu courses were totally enjoyed by all who had ordered.
Ken Rogers, John Hafner and Doug Gillett all had hard luck stories to tell about what could have been, but it didn’t matter because Ken Johnson and Terry Stevens had the points that mattered on their cards. New Lady, Cath Guest, made a great debut by winning by 5 strokes. Thanks to Nev Halls for the donation of balls which allowed six Nearest the Pins to be played.
Photos.
1. They shouldn’t be watching me; they should be trying to learn the line of their putts.
2. Did they find it? They took quite a time so as not to damage the plants, I believe.
3. He played well today but hitting off the white markers on the 10th was very costly.
4. I suppose if it works you, might as well try it Rhonda.
5. No 5 today. The camera accidently stayed in the bag instead of doing the Clubhouse shoot after the game.
The next game is at Ipswich City on Monday 20th August. It is an 8.30am Shotgun start and the First Round of the 2018 Queenslanders Credit Union Championships. The Timesheets for both Rounds are now out.
