With the excessive February heat being experienced this year, players were fortunate that the temperature was in the bottom half of the 30’s. It was partly cloudy which helped with the discomfort of the high humidity as did the breeze generated by Buggy travel.
The field today was a great 100 (80 men and 20 ladies). Of these 16 were new or returning members giving a year to date membership of 154, which means that we still have quite a few to present for a game this year. Paul Harbers had nearly all cards pre-printed, missing only those who turned up unexpectedly. Thanks Paul. All were anxious to get the game started and the field was dispatched just after 8.15am.
The Course had benefitted from the summer rain and it had good gras coverage though with the constant growth, those areas yet to be mown were a problem for ball searches in some areas and the high second cut caused many players a few extra shots on their scorecard. The Greens were in excellent condition and gave a true roll to the hole.
The newly positioned urn was well used before play and today there were two choices on the lunch menu which was a very good move.
No 40 plus scores were recorded today, an indication that the Course played a little hard, especially as the rundown went lower than usual as well. Local lads Paul Brennan and Billy Lowe won the Men’s trophies and Pam Lane spoiled the clean sweep when she just pipped Shirley Luhrman. Les Smith and Allan Raper almost cleaned out the Lucky Numbers Prizes with Les winning three and Allan two.
Photos.
1. They head off. The Course looks great but it’s going to get hot.
2. Good thinking John to stand in the shade, but you’re still anxious about this shot.
3. They’ll be back in soon, let’s try the burgers.
4. The bar was always going to be busy after the game today.
5. We appreciate the chance to relax in the cool.
The next game is at Laidley on Monday 20th February. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet for the upcoming game at Toowoomba City on Monday 27th February is now available also.
