Stars in the sky at 5.00am, cloudy at 7.00am and showers at 8.00am but by 8.45am a very pleasant day’s golf was ushered in. Play even got under way 10 minutes early.
The field today was 126 (106 men and 20 ladies), 26 up on the same game last year with 26 renewals, 2 new members and 2 former members as guests. Paul Brennan did a great job in having most of the cards printed and after a few late additions everyone had the corect one.
Like everywhere else around the District, the Course was showing the effects of the dry weather, but the Fairways were responding very well to the constant watering. The Greens had weathered much better and were at the usual Sandy Gallop top playing level..
The Tea and biscuits were eagerly sought by the large numbers and even Brett was surprised by the demand for Hamburgers, but by good luck the extra number purchased just met the requirements.
Local knowledge played a part in the results today. An eagle last year and a win this year is Tom O’Shea’s record on Opening Day with 44 points ,the best score of the day, plus a Pin Shot. Jeff Brown won Division 2 on Countback from Rod Hangan with a very commendable 42 points. Rhonda Williams’s 39 points just got her the ladies trophy backed up by a 64cm Pin Shot win.

1. Thanks Graham. Your defiance scared away the rain.
2. Paul makes sure the information on the card is correct.
3. The short shower brought everyone in under cover for about 10 minutes.
4. A very well-ordered departure to the trials of the day.
The next game is at Laidley on Monday 18th February. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is now out.
