Event 2 – Sandy Gallop

The temperature only reached 29 today, 11 short of last year’s 40 degrees, with occasional cloud cover and a gentle breeze to make conditions as good as we could expect for this time of the year.

The field today was 78 (57 men and 21 ladies), 30 down on the equivalent game last year for some reason, but the field certainly took advantage of this, and some completed play in just over three and a half hours.13 of those playing were returning members, and three were new. Once again, Paul Brennan and his team had the cards printed for which we were very grateful.

The Course was well grassed, but care was still needed to watch the flight of the ball where there was a chance of its flirting with the rough. The Greens were in top shape and gave an excellent roll to the hole.

The Urn was boiling on arrival, and the hamburger lunch was of the usual high standard.

Another one of those days when the winners, Ann Hughes, John Comp and Rob Walker, all had the same score, 39, and by good margins, and even more remarkable, when these scores were so good, was that the men’s rundown went down to 30. It was very pleasing to welcome Sel Schipplock back having a game with us.

Photos:

1. These corellas were not disturbed by the passing golfers on the sixth hole.

2. Helen was well satisfied to know that her shot finished up the middle of the fairway.

3. Rhonda had a great vantage spot to follow Janet’s shot to the Green.

4. Hans finds this multi-purpose club very useful at times like this.

The next game is at Lowood on Monday 21st February. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is now out at Rosewood.
