Event 2 – Sandy Gallop

In 2021 we played in 40 degree heat, last year it was 29 and today we had a very humid day, with the official temperature reaching 33, and players were all regularly having swigs on their fluid containers to avoid dehydration.

The field today was 74(56 men and 18 ladies), a few down on the first game here last year. 10 of those playing were returning members, and two were new. Thanks to Bryan Kathage and Paul Mahoney for their assistance in preparing the cards and in successfully overseeing the entry of the scores after the game.

The Course was as well grassed as we have ever seen it, and the ground staff had done an excellent job in trying to keep up with the new growth. The areas of first and second cut caused some delays as players took time to locate wayward shots. The Greens were cut to a good height for putting, but non-Sandy Gallop members often suffered from lack of experience in reading the line on the slopes of so many of them.

The welcoming Tea and Coffee was much appreciated and the hamburger lunch was of the same good quality as on previous visits.

The top three scores were 38, 37 and 36 and who had them? In order, Pam Hughes, Peter Roche and John Hafner, and they duly took the winners trophies home. The group on 13A was Roger Cromarty, Neale Porter, Angelo Elape and Jim Daniels. Roger, Neale and Angelo won Pin shots and Jim won a ball in the rundown. How many balls did each player receive?

4. This set up rewarded Graham with 40 points last Thursday, but his score was nothing like that here today.

6. New members, Michael Todd and Col Berndt, didn’t win a ball but it appears that they were happy enough about the day’s golf.

The next game is at Lowood on Monday 20th February. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is now out at Rosewood.
