Event 2 – Sandy Gallop

The day was ideal for golf. Twelve months after the lower One Mile bridge re-opened to allow access to the club, players coming from Wulkuraka and Leichhardt had to detour as one half of the main bridge was closed this year for flood damage repairs. Play got under way 5 minutes early and nearly half the field was finished their game in around the 4 hour mark.

A field of 83(62 men and 21 ladies) turned up and of these, four were new members. Registration was a lot easier today and the production of scorecards with all the necessary data printed on them eased player’s anxiety of knowing exact handicaps and then working out their daily Handicaps.

The Course was in pretty good condition with few bare patches on Fairways. The Greens were in very good condition except for the areas poisoned to remove foreign grass.

Brett took over the cooking of the hamburgers again this game, and his partner did a great job getting the bread rolls and fillings ready for the burger.

The Men’s Divisions were both decided on countback with Arnold Reis and Ernie Wright coming out the victors. Les Smith had a great day with the Pins winning two of them. A little of the gloss of the effort was lost when he came to sharing the balls. He played in a group of five.

Photos.

1. Taking the money in the morning must be tiring work, Des!

2. What photography! The ball appears to be floating over the hole.

3. When Darcy makes a point, everyone listens.

4. Ray McLeod relaxes with his group after his first day as a Vet.

5. Jill tells the group how she got her first ever Birdie.

The next game is at Middle Ridge on Monday 24th February. It will be a Two Tee Start from 8.30am. The Timesheet for the following game at Laidley on Monday 3rd March is now available also.
