Event 2 – Sandy Gallop

Sandy Gallop – February 2024

• It was a partly cloudy day but the extremely hot humid weather continued and players made sure they took plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
• The field today was 77(63 men and 14 ladies), our first game of the year since last Monday’s game had to be called off because the condition of the Course would only have permitted walkers. We welcomed 9 new members.
• Some areas of today’s Course were still roped off but the recent rain ensured a lush grass coverage on the playing area. We were allocated 13 holes from which to hit off to start the day, but got to play the whole 18. The Greens were right up to the high standard usually provided here.
• The Tea and Coffee and biscuits were much appreciated by players, especially the travellers from Esk and Toogoolawah. The hamburger lunch was of the same good quality as on previous visits.
• Great trophies today. With both Closing and Opening Days called off, the Meat voucher Trophies had to be used today before the expiry date was reached, so 6 lucky players benefitted. There were close scores at the top but Di Stanley, Chris Siellaff and Peter Nunn were the winners. Rod Turnbull had a great day even though he was pipped for the main trophy, because he also picked up two pin shots.
• Photos. 1. And the rest of the Course was just as green. 2. Great hope for a successful day after this typical Bill Naoum swing but it wasn’t to be. 3. They were all so confident on the first Tee, but it was only Peter who kept it together and he went on to win Division two. 4. All the seats will be occupied soon as they come inside for the AGM. 5. One of Ossie’s favourite 1939 tunes contained the line “21 years dear, is a mighty long time”, and he said he knows the truth of that now, then added, and so is 25 years.
• The next game is at Lowood on Monday 19th February. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is now out at Rosewood.
• A delayed AGM was held after Presentations. Attendance was the highest for a number of years. This meeting’s Agenda, the Minutes of last year’s meeting, the Financial reports and a Notice of Motion were displayed for the information of members. The 2023 Annual Report confirmed a Membership of 162, 13 above last year’s low number of 149. The Secretary/Treasurer presented the financial reports which indicated slightly greater expenditure than income, but a similar healthy balance to that of the previous report. In 2024, Woodford will not be played and Toogoolawah and Brookwater have been added. The Motion to update the Association Rules in regard to Membership was passed. The election of Officers resulted in Cameron Powell taking over as President from Ossie Baker. Also Ray Johnson is not continuing on the Committee which now includes Doug Walsh, Neale Porter. Arthur Green and Bill Naoum. Other positions remain the same.
