Event 19 – Karana Downs

The day was perfect for golf though it did get a little warm for this time of the year for the last third of the day. All arrived early and once again play got under way a bit early.
There were 62 players (49 men and 13 ladies), up 5 on last year’s number, largely due to the higher number of ladies. The first group completed the Round in just under four hours. One visitor joined us in the field.

The Course was very well prepared, and hazards were clearly marked. Even though the Fairways were well grassed, the Captain introduced ‘preferred lie’ and this helped to ensure well grassed lies for most Fairway shots, and relief was possible from some challenging shots from the rough. The Greens were in excellent condition but still took some reading and often ‘over strong’ return putts were putted well past the hole and needed an accurate return putt to get two or three points.

Karana Downs Burgers were the lunch offering and were very filling.

Allan Raper had another fine game and again came out the winner in Division 2. Dorothy Pearson and Wally Bodetti had solid 38’s to take out the other two Divisions. Probably the play of the day came from a shot from in front of the Hazard short of the First Green which an Esk player struck so well that he holed it. See the third photo.

Photos.

1. Looking at the shot to the 18th Green.

2. Some were not too keen to leave the Clubhouse with the xxx at an exciting stage.

3. Not too many could find the hole from that position.

4. The very difficult Par 3 8th hole. Only a couple hit the Green today.

The next game is at Hattonvale on 8th August. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The following game is on Monday 22nd August at Rosewood. It is the first Round of the 2016 IDVGA Championships.
